7th March 2010 - Important Update
First of all I would like to apologise for the tardiness of writing something to customers and for not keeping the blog up to date - this is entirely my fault due to time constraints of working on other projects but this will be rectified from now on.
This report is designed to keep you all up to date with what has been happening at HBI and to clear up a few things which we keep getting asked.
Firstly and foremost the same person is doing the tips who started on day one - he has not changed and neither have his methods for picking bets.
When we first started HBI a year ago we set ourselves a high target - we wanted to be one of the best in terms of profit, customer service and transparency and although profits have dipped over the last couple of months we feel we have achieved what we set out to do - nothing is ever hidden and all bets are there to see in black and white.
To a degree we have created a rod for our own back - ten good winning months set a precedent which in the last couple of months has been hard to match - some people have taken this in their stride looking at the long term angle whilst others have been concerned especially if they have joined recently but sadly we can not guarantee a profit every single month.
I don't really want to come up with excuses for why things have taken a downturn though the weather certainly hasn't helped with meetings postponed and horses being unfit but Mr T has admitted that it has been his poorest all weather season for years (and looking at other services results we are not alone in this) and we just have to accept that these things happen from time to time in betting.
Some people have also asked whether we have been chasing losses - this is something we do not advocate and have never practised. If you look back over our past history we have endured long losing runs before but we stick to the same staking plan and the same methods to produce long term profits as there is no point in changing what has clearly been a profitable policy in the past.
Below I have put in the monthly breakdown of ROI, points stakes, number of bets and average point value per bet.
| Month | ROI (%) | Points Bet | Total Bets | Av. Points/Bet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| April | 13.71 | 204.2 | 108 | 1.89 |
| May | 23.75 | 196.7 | 120 | 1.64 |
| June | 27.98 | 238.9 | 98 | 2.44 |
| July | 31.80 | 320.7 | 132 | 2.43 |
| August | 20.72 | 273.4 | 120 | 2.28 |
| September | 4.33 | 230.2 | 93 | 2.48 |
| October | 15.43 | 165.4 | 70 | 2.36 |
| November | 37.17 | 115 | 43 | 2.67 |
| December | 15.71 | 98 | 41 | 2.39 |
| January | 0.69 | 172 | 64 | 2.69 |
| February | -18.45 | 127 | 48 | 2.65 |
Maybe the last couple of months the bet size has got slightly bigger and January did see an increased number of 5 point max bets - but interestingly enough these remain highly profitable.
Since we started the 5 point max bets have produced 99.5 points profit and an ROI of 37.5% with 47 bets producing 22 winners - a 46% strike rate.
These bets have actually still performed well in recent months with 3/5 in February and 5/10 in January and there have been more of them which would explain the increase in bet size. Also we have our rare big e/w bets which have been hugely rewarding with Tranquil Sea 9/1, Total Gallery 20/1 and Radiohead 10/1 all winning - these are however few and far between.
Interestingly the 4 point win bets also have produced a very good profit - 44 bets have returned 129.7 points profit with an ROI of 73.69% and again these have done well in recent months.
When you work out the profit from all the large bets - 3 ew,4 win,4 ew, 5 win they account for roughly 90% of all the profit we have generated to date.
We have looked very very closely at these larger bets and have decided that this really is the way forward for HBI and we think it will really help our customers.
By heavily reducing the number of bets we cut down on the workload of placing bets and reduce the risk of having bookmakers accounts closed whilst still maintaining a very healthy profit margin.
Whilst we really don't like changing things which have been working long term this really does seem like a very sensible step to take and in this game you really have to adapt to survive.

We must say we are looking forward to the turf flat season starting soon and we do have some high quality jump racing over the next month.

11th October 2009 - September Review
Another month done and dusted and an impressive seventh winning month in a row - not many tipping services can give you that degree of consistency. We won't deny that things were tough but we hung in there, didn't change our staking or method of selection and walked away with a profit of just over 10 points, and this has kept us at the top of the 3,6 and 12 month proofing tables at www.racingproofing.com
The main difference to previous months was simple - we just lacked a few winners with 13 - past numbers were 20,20 and 17 so we were about 4 winners short of having a winning month of 50 points. Undoubtedly the highlight of the month was the tipping of Colorus at 28/1 who eventually went off at 8/1 and won comfortably. The lowlight was the performance of the 5 pointers - usually we have a very high strike rate but this month all 4 lost and we were particularly gutted with Jimmy Styles who won the Ayr Gold Cup the week after we had a 5 point bet on him.
We will have months like this but we held our nerve and fought back well to produce a profit. The good thing about having a bit of a losing run is that we eventually got some feedback from customers - when winning week in week out we don't seem to get many emails (apart from those saying Wow!) but we have had several with suggestions of how we can improve the way we send tips etc. We always try to send bets using BOG bookmakers and fortunately more and more are joining the bandwagon, this now makes it easier for us to tip horses where people can get on at the prices we recommend.
We have listened to all suggestions and have changed a few things to make our service better.
This time of the season is notoriously difficult but being sensible and patient we will continue to produce a profit and proved it on the 1st October with a huge winning day - but more of that next month!
All the best

7th September 2009 - August Review
After a sluggish start to the month we finally got going and ran out an impressive 20 winners with another 15 finishing 2nd. We had some big priced winners at 12/1,12/1 and 16/1 but the most impressive performance came with our 5 point maximum bets - 5 of which won at 6/4,9/4/7/4,13/8 and 5/2 and the only one that lost traded at 1.05!
Who else can produce a strike rate like that on their best bets especially with no odd-on shots selected?
We ended up 60.3 points in profit on the month maintaining our impressive ROI of over 25% - somewhat better than the banks are offering at present! That equates to £6000 at £100 per point - even at £20 a point and with a maximum bet of £100 that’s a £1200 profit in one month - nearly 10x the monthly subscription fee.
Horse Betting Index has now produced 6 consecutive winning months with an overall profit of £33,425 and we head the Racing Proofing tables for 3,6 and 12 months so all our tips are independently verified. We are now clearly established amongst the higher echelons of web based tipping services and our client base is growing all the time.
There is still some great flat racing in September - the final Classic at the Doncaster St Leger Festival along with the Ayr Gold Cup and Group One QE 11 at Ascot, not to mention several classic pointers to next year, with the Mill Reef, Champagne Stakes & Royal Lodge we are sure to see some top class 2 year old performances.
Before the end of the flat season proper we also have the Autumn Double and Champion stakes at Newmarket plus the Arc weekend and then we move into the full All Weather Season and an exciting National Hunt Season.
Why not join us today and add to your betting profits - we only charge one fee for all codes of racing throughout the whole year.
6th August 2009 - July Review
Well July has exceeded all expectations as we broke through the 100 point barrier on the month. The basic figures read as follows - 320.7 points staked,103.97 points profit and an ROI of 32.4%. We have tipped 20 individual winners in total but we came close with a lot more having 18 horses finish second - as our professional race reader said "just imagine if just a couple of those had won - the results would look really scary!"
It was a slow start to the month but we hit form with a bang at the Newmarket July meeting recommending 3 pts ew on Total Gallery at 20/1. That price remained in place overnight and as the day of the race progressed he was strongly backed all the way into 11/1 winning the race comfortably in the end and leaving our subscribers jumping for joy.
Glorious Goodwood was fairly glorious as well as we maintained our track record of turning it on for the big meetings recording a profit of 18.5 points over the 5 days. We ended the month on a high especially on the 30th July in the evening when we had 3 winners on the bounce at 5/1,8/1 and 11/4.
All this profit has seen us leap to the top of the www.racingproofing.com league tables for three months, six months and even twelve months!

6th July 2009 - New Kid On The Block
Being the new kid on the block and producing the results that HBI has done to start with naturally makes everyone that little bit sceptical, however we have been proofing our tips independently since March 19th and now we can prove that we are among the best services in the country. Racing Proofing are the forerunner in independent tipster proofing and if you click here you can see we fare well amongst our peers.

1st July 2009 - June Report
June has been a fascinating and very profitable month for Horse Betting Index - the basic numbers are 230.9 points staked for a profit of 69.94 points an incredible £6994 to recommended stakes with an ROI of 30% - far exceeding our target of 20%.
We have backed a total of 17 winners on the month which have included our biggest priced winner so far when Jimwil obliged at 33/1 and our biggest stake so far of 4 pts e/w which also obliged as Radiohead romped to victory at Royal Ascot at the rewarding odds of 10/1.
We have spearheaded some impressive gambles particularly with 2 bets advised the day before racing with Firebet being advised at 6/1 and winning at 15/8 and with Kay Gee Be who was tipped up at 14/1 and returned the e/w money when finishing 3rd at 7/1.
The highlight of the month was undoubtedly Royal Ascot - befitting as it is the highlight of the flat racing season and our subscribers can certainly afford to buy tickets and a new frock for next years meeting after our tipster returned them a profit of 46.25 points over the 5 days.
Make sure you are signed up and ready for these highlights in the coming month - the July meeting at Newmarket, the John Smith Magnet Cup Day at York, the King George at Ascot and not forgetting Glorious Goodwood which starts on the 28th July.
In other matters we have launched our Affiliate scheme which pays an attractive commission of up to £100 (details here), a new Blog page has been created - some of you might well be reading this report here. We are also putting the finishing touches to our promotional day at Newton Abbot on 13th July where we will be sponsoring 4 races on the card and launching an exciting competition - stay tuned for details.
All the best

22nd June 2009 - First Month Report
Since our launch on the 14th May 2009 we have produced an £8,398 profit to a staking plan of £100 per point even at £25 per point that is a return of £2099 in one month!! We are clearly well on target to maintain our objective which is 20% ROI. We have an extensive advertising campaign planned to highlight the service and web site which is crucial to the long term business plan including sponsoring most of the race card at Newton Abbot on 13th July.
The view from our race reader
You will notice by simply looking at my results I rarely suggest anything less than 6/4 as you can find those yourselves and invariably you will find it very difficult to make a long term profit backing short priced favourites. Maiden races will rarely be selected as they offer little value most times and the each way angle is non existent to any volume of money.
Instead we look for value in bigger priced selections which are often heavily gambled in the run up to the off - examples in the our first trading month include
Ponty Rossa 7/1 - 3/1 WON
Dalradian 16/1 - 13/2 WON
Tangerine Trees 7/2 - 6/4 WON
Jimwil 33/1 - 20/1 WON
We have had a few close calls as well - having secured 33/1 on Lasso the Moon at Epsom the horse did everything wrong at the gate losing 10 lengths, to finish third was a remarkable run and got us the e/w return with an SP as low as 12/1.
June has really been an up and down month with a few near misses at big prices, but that’s par for the course and will always happen, however that all changed on Thursday 18th June. We landed a huge touch on a horse I have been waiting for when RADIOHEAD duly turned up at Royal Ascot. I was astonished that no journalist picked up on this horse and he was completely ignored in the press and allowed to go off at 10/1. This highlights why Horsebettingindex.com is essential to any serious punter, this horse would have won by 10 lengths if it hadn’t got hampered yet nobody in the Racing Post gave it a mention. Not only did I identify it a long time ago as a potential star I recommended 4pt e/w - a substantial bet even by my standards but the confidence was fully justified.
This is the sort of information you can get by following my tips at Horsebettingindex.com - no odds-on favourites or stable whispers but solid race reading and profitable selections
